Haiga of Maria Tomczak

Maria Tomczak
The Haiku Foundation honors the work of contemporary masters of the dual art of haiga: visual image wedded to haiku. This month’s featured artist is Maria Tomczak.
Maria Tomczak lives and works in Opole, Poland. She is an award-winning haiku poet and digital artist, recently interested in photo manipulation art. As a teenager she was interested in manga and animé and naturally this expanded into a fascination with a wide swath of Japanese culture, especially literature and history. Her haiku and haiga have appeared widely in publications around the world. She values haiga because it can touch the soul even more than a single poem or artwork. Maria currently is haiga editor for Wild Plum, a haiku journal for which she has also designed three covers.
