This Week in Haikupedia — July 12, 2020

The Haiku Foundation welcomes you to Haikupedia! Each week for the next several months we will release a few new articles in our ever-expanding encyclopedia of haiku. These we hope will give you a sense of the potential scale of this enterprise, as well as entice you to become a part of the project.

This week’s new releases focus on The Haiku Foundation’s markers of achievement, the Touchstone Awards. The Haiku Foundation began recognizing outstanding achievement in the realm of haiku, related genres, theory and criticism, shortly after it became public in 2009. The first Touchstones were awarded in 2010 and every year subsequently. THF presents two distinct awards, the Touchstone Awards for Individual Poems, which recognize the best poems published each calendar year; and the Touchstone Distinguished Books Award, which does the same for books of haiku, as well as history, biography and criticism within the genre.

We also honor at this time, via short biographies, several of the key personnel who make the awards possible, including longstanding Touchstone Awards Committee Chairman Bruce Feingold, and panelists Don Wentworth, Scott Mason, Beverly Acuff Momoi, and Mike Rehling.
