The Haiku Foundation honors the work of contemporary masters of the dual art of haiga: visual image wedded to haiku. This month’s featured artist is Don Baird.

Don is a photographer, poet (haiku, haibun, haiga), and professional martial artist. These days he lives a relaxed life in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He has written 12 books on subjects from haiku, martial arts, poetry of God, and philosophy. His two most recent books are, From Breath to Words (a haiku sojourn), 2023, and Divine Promises (a Christian faith book that also includes haiku as a sort of seasoning), 2023. His wife has her hands full but their lives together span over 35 years. His dream is to unclothe his peaceful heart in such a way that while it looks like he is never doing anything, nothing is left undone — a great journey for the soul.
