Juxtapositions, The Haiku Foundation’s journal of haiku research and scholarship, releases Issue 2.1, dedicated to poet, editor and publisher Cor van den Heuvel on the occasion of his 85th birthday, March 6, 2016. Juxtapositions 2.1 includes Sandra Simpson’s history of haiku through The Great War, Judy Kendall’s exploration of the different sorts of experiences readers have when using reading v. viewing modes, Charles Trumbull offers a spirited defense of Shiki’s theory of shasei, Ian Marshall and Megan Simpson deconstruct haiku in real time as they walk the woods, and THF founder Jim Kacian interviews issue honoree Cor van den Heuvel. Brief appreciations of several of van den Heuvel’s signature haiku are offered by a gathering of some of the best haiku poets writing today, and Melissa Allen offers a retrospective review of the three editions of van den Heuvel’s The Haiku Anthology.
