Thanks for Being a Part in International Haiku Poetry Day 2024

Hundred of haiku lovers around the world celebrated International Haiku Poetry Day 2024 in many ways.

The HaikuLife Haiku Film Festival 2024 screened 32 new videos. They are available permanently in our HaikuLife Archive and will be featured individually on the blog in the ensuing months.

The EarthRise Rolling Haiku Collaboration produced another outstanding showing, with poets from around the world contributing to the world’s largest collaborative poem. This year’s theme, eclipse, featured a surprisingly snarky seed poem by Japanese haiku master Issa, and many derivations as well as divigations.

And while we have the details from only a handful of local meeting, we know a number of other meetings were held as well. We hope to offer reports from as many as possible in the next few days. Send your photos and a summary of your event and we will post it here!

The winners of the 2023 Touchstone Awards were announced in three categories: the Touchstone Distinguished Books Award, the Touchstone Award for Individual Poems, and the Touchstone Award for Individual Haibun. Each recipient will receive an acrylic plaque with their title or poem inscribed, and be honored with an individual blog post over the next few days.

And The Haiku Foundation entered the world of TikTok with the release of our new THF TikTok Channel, created and administered by Pippa Phillips.

Thank you for spending time with haiku, and with us, on International Haiku Poetry Day!

Be a part of it — celebrate International Haiku Poetry Day, April 17.

  1. To celebrate International Haiku Day, we wrote haiku on paper leaves which we laminated, cut out and tied to string which we spiralled around the tree trunks outside our town’s cafe. We alerted people to them with chalk messages along the footpath. Many people stopped to read them. I’m removing them today but will keep them for future use.
