I grew up on the north shore of Long Island and spent all my life there except for the past few years here in Virginia, and the three years I spent with the Air Force Security Service in Germany during the Cold War. I consider myself a Long Island poet, and much of what I write derives its inspiration from the Island's north shore beaches, bluffs, creeks, bays, ocean and woods. I started writing haiku seriously the year I retired from teaching English at Shoreham Wading River High School on Long Island. Under the tutelage of Bob Spiess and many other generous editors I began publishing in Modern Haiku and other magazines. I've continued to teach English at a community college level since retirement and don't foresee a time when I will stop doing so. I will probably die with chalk in my hand, and a poem in my heart.

Awards and Other Honors: Editor's Choice Award, White Lotus 3 (2006) [Marie Summers, editor]; Best of Issue senryu for "senior Scrabble" in Modern Haiku 40:1 (2009) [Charles Trumbull, editor]; one of the poets featured in A New Resonance 3: Emerging Voices in English-Language Haiku (Red Moon Press, 2001) poet [Jim Kacian and Dee Evetts, editors], followed by echoes 1 [compiled by Jim Kacian and Alice Frampton] (Red Moon Press, 2007); my poems have appeared in the Red Moon annual "best English-language haiku" anthologies every year but one since 2003.

Books Published: Making Way [Vince Tripi, editor] (tribe press, 2004).
