The Haiku Foundation honors the work of contemporary masters of the dual art of haiga: visual image wedded to haiku. This month’s featured artist is Wolfgang and Anne-Dore Beutke.
Wolfgang Beutke is a retired Naval Officer. Born 1947 in Berlin, he joined the German Navy in 1967. He served for 14 years in seagoing ships, mostly frigates and destroyers. Appointments: Principle Warfare Officer / Executive Officer / Commanding Officer. He attended the Royal Military College of Science UK in 1982. The last years of his career he served in the German Ministry of Defense. After retirement in 2005 he concentrated in collecting Chinese and Japanese ceramics. Ever since that time he has found fascination in haiku and related Japanese works of art.
Anne-Dore Beutke is a retired teacher. She was born 1952 in Wilhelmshaven and studied Art and English in Kiel. She taught these subjects at several schools in Northern Germany. After retirement in 2011 she concentrates more on her lifelong love for photography. She shares her husband’s passion for Japanese works of Art.
