Photo Haiku of Diane Mayr

Diane Mayr
The Haiku Foundation honors the work of contemporary masters of the dual art of haiga: visual image wedded to haiku. This month’s featured artist is Diane Mayr.
Diane Mayr is a long-time public librarian and a freelance writer. She is the author of a storyhour favorite picture book, Run, Turkey, Run! Writing picture books for children prepared her for the terseness of haiku and the combination of words and images in haiga. Over the past decade, she has concentrated on writing haiku and other short form poems, and illustrates them using her own photos and public domain images. The haiga in this gallery reflect her love of animals and is an expression of gratitude for their existence. Diane’s haiku publishing credits are spotty at best, which is due to her not being interested in the “work” of submitting poems. Why work when you can have fun writing and illustrating? Diane’s poetry can be found at her blog, Random Noodling.
