Per Diem for July 2020: Interdependence
Per Diem: Daily Haiku for July 2020 features Brian Robertson’s collection on the theme of ‘Interdependence’. This is what Brian has to say by way of an introduction to this theme:
In 1994 Robert Hass described haiku as having “some implicit Buddhist reflection on nature. (…) At the core of Buddhist metaphysics are three ideas about natural things: that they are transient; that they suffer; and that they are contingent.” Transience relies on time, suffering on dependency, and contingency on what’s coming, which seems to be the result of time’s effect on any dependency. These three are interdependent, and I’ve chosen haiku that speak to this.
