Per Diem/Daily Haiku for June 2021: Passages
Per Diem: Daily Haiku for June 2021 features David Oates’ collection on the theme of ‘Passages’. This is what David has to say by way of an introduction to this theme:
The theme “Passages” led me to some interesting places to major life changes – cutting a first tooth, leaving a job, seeing the direction of a relationship, having children, or dealing with the loss of someone dear. Others gave subtler hints of passage – a New Year’s fortune, being the new person in a group, buying strawberries. Many resonated with times in my life, but it was fascinating to touch on some that were outside of my direct experience. Searching for these reminded me that most haiku capture a moment, but not necessarily a moment that suggests a passage. The poets, whose work has been featured in this selection, have been very generous and kind. I’ve enjoyed connecting with people I knew and with those who I only met because I spotted a poem that I thought would suit. Other poets helped me connect with people I was having trouble reaching. Hope you enjoy this bowl of passages.
