Our Roving Ambassador in England and Ireland

Roberta Beary Goes a’Roving

In late July 2026, Roberta ventured to Bradford on Avon, England, to meet with haiku poet and educator Alan Summers. Joined by Roberta’s husband, Frank, the three enjoyed an animated discussion on all things haiku at The Bridge Tea Rooms (circa 17th century) before touring the local museum.

Early August 2026 found Roberta in Dublin, Ireland, where poet and seashores haiku journal founder / editor Gilles Fabre met Roberta and Frank at Neon, an Asian restaurant. Roberta and Gilles discussed issues faced by journal editors before moving onto The Haiku Foundation’s Haiku Registry, which Roberta strongly encouraged Gilles to explore. The visit closed with Roberta swapping her Roving Ambassador card for Gilles’ World Rugby lanyard.

Dublin poet and artist Mary White was able to get together with Roberta and Frank to present Roberta with a copy of Mary’s debut haiku collection, a filament of radiance (Alba Publishing, 2026). Although all wished the visit could have been extended, preparations for the next day’s flight (August 5, 2026) to the States curtailed it.

  1. It was a grand day, and super hot. We enjoyed High Tea at Ye Olde Tea Shoppe (not its real name).

The three of us caused only minor mayhem, but then aren’t haiku poets often a wee bit naughty?

    1. We had a great day a roving Alan! Thanks for taking time to spend all those haiku hours in lovely Bradford on Avon.

    1. It always is fun to travel outside my comfort zone. Meeting with haiku poets across the pond is a wonderful bonus!
