Without answering she turned to the professor in charge of the language project, Donald Graham Stuart, and said to him, “can you believe it, these guys want me as their teacher!”. Teaching was a thing she never had thought of herself, as the whole project was a rather academic attempt of automatic translation of Japanese into English and visa versa.

She took on the job, noticed quickly that Dutch men approaching 30 need a lot of preparation and did her utmost in creating educational material. Luckily for her some female students became part of the study group over time, more gifted and more promising ones, yet we all were not native speakers of English.
