Haiku Music Challenge 42
Welcome to the forty-second iteration of the Haiku Music Challenge, hosted by Naviar Records.
This is the first haiku music challenge of the year, with a poem written by the great and prolific Kobayashi Issa who during his life wrote over twenty thousand haiku.
a new year begins —
before sunrise
a pine-decorated boat
Twelve tracks were inspired by Issa’s poem. Here’s my selection for this week:
Track: before sunrise, boat
Artist: how the night came
Genre: piano, ambientThis piece by how the night came blends a minimalist piano melody with cinematic and haunting ambient layers.
Track: After A New Year
Artist: Daniel Diaz
Genre: instrumentalThe positive mood and atmosphere evoked by Daniel Diaz’s piece is a beautiful start to the year.
Track: A New Year Begins — Before Sunrise
Artist: OneAmbient4
Genre: ambientThe final track is a warm and enveloping ambient piece by OneAmbient4.
Thank you for listening. Next week we’ll be listening to music inspired by a haiku by Taneda Santoka:
Buoyantly we go
Like the wind,
Tasting water.
