Haiku Music Challenge 30

Welcome to the thirtieth iteration of the Haiku Music Challenge, hosted by Naviar Records.

The pen name “an’ya” loosely translates into “a peaceful surprise light in the moonless night”. Though nowadays she writes mostly tanka, in 2011 an’ya was voted one of the top ten haiku poets in the world by Simply Haiku.

polarized sky

the mixed melodies

of twilight birds

an’ya’s poem inspired eighteen tracks. Here are the three compositions I selected this week for you:

Track: polarized sky, twilight birds
Artist: Danial Diaz
Genre: instrumental, classical

We start this music selection with a soothing piece by Daniel Diaz. For this composition Daniel used recordings of his old upright piano and combined them with ambient and classical elements.

Track: polarized sky
Artist: earthborn visions
Genre: ambient, experimental

The other-worldly atmosphere of earthborn vision’s track is a perfect match for the ethereal mood expressed by an’ya’s poem.

Track: When you swim
Artist: Pedro Figueiredo
Genre: experimental, electronic

Focused more on the poem’s melancholic mood, Pedro Figueiredo’s submission seems like a sonic snapshot frozen in time.

Thank you for listening. Next week we’ll be listening to music inspired by a haiku by Fukuda Chiyo-ni:

my little dragonfly hunter

I wonder how far

he has gone today . . .

The deadline to submit your track is 7 August. To find out more and participate, please visit the Naviar Records site.
