Haiga of Beth McFarland

Beth McFarland

The Haiku Foundation honors the work of contemporary masters of the dual art of haiga: visual image wedded to haiku. This month’s featured artist is Beth McFarland.

Beth McFarland was born and grew up in Ireland. She studied microbiology at Queen’s University, Belfast, and received her PhD from the Department of Veterinary Science (Northern Ireland) in 1990. Soon afterwards, Beth moved to Germany, and started teaching English to non-native speakers. This job has remained exciting and rewarding for more than 20 years. Beth has always loved to write and draw, and the creation of haiga satisfies both these needs. Her haiga can be seen in many of the online journals and in paper publications. She is currently the haiga editor for Cattails, the UHTS journal.
