Haiga

[Asa-gao]

The art of mating image with prose.  This has produced some awe inspiring work out of Japan.  This too is catching on around the world, much like haiku.  A sharing here, of both poet and artist out of Japan, Kuniharu Shimizu.  In the link below, an offering of his which takes the poetry of Basho (translation by Donald Keene/Columbia University) and gives a whole new spin to an ancient art.  I am loving it  :)

So awed by the artistry, and of the many additional layers it adds - a pretty bird (oblivious, or not), the poem perhaps reflective thoughts of those in the boat - skilled calligraphy .. it just goes on an on.  yes?
