Haibun heads up!
« on: March 04, 2021, 05:04:46 PM »
A haibun heads up!

Blo͞o Outlier Journal issue #2 will be a haibun only issue.
I have also invited two US haibun writer/editors to join me as guest editors.

Announcements will be made on the Blo͞o blog, which people can follow to receive alerts:
https://bloooutlierjournal.blogspot.com

ONE haibun only submission.
This can be a "shortie" (one short paragraph, one haiku); a medium length haibun, or even a longer haibun (max. 1500 words)

A special dedicated haibun submission email will be created for the submission process.

The submission window will open around mid-April this year, and be open for 7-10 days only.

That gives people TWO months to prepare ONE haibun.

Editors:

Alan Summers, Editor-in-Chief
He is a Pushcart Prize nominated haibun writer, and a Best Small Fictions nominated haibun writer. Former haibun editor for Blithe Spirit, and founding and chief editor of Blo͞o Outlier Journal, as well as editor-in-chief of The Babylon Sidedoor. Alan is also the co-founder of Call of the Page. His recent haiku pamphlets include: Forbidden Syllables (Bones Library 2020) Glint (Proletaria 2020) and joint collection The Comfort of Crows (Alan Summers & Hifsa Ashraf) with Velvet Dusk Publishing (2019)

Grix
An award-winning, Pushcart Prize nominated haibun writer, whose work focuses on disability, gender, trauma, and loss. She is the founding and chief editor for Human/Kind Journal. She is currently joint Team leader of the Trailblazer Awards; Assistant Editor with Sonic Boom, and Yavanika Press, and also reader for new British based "kontinuum: kortárs haiku_contemporary haiku" journal. Forsythia received Second Place in the Turtle Light Press Haiku Chapbook Contest judged by Susan Antolin (2019) and Winner of the Touchstone Award for Individual Poems 2019. She is the author of Fire Rainbow: A Haibun and Tanka Story Memoir (Human/Kind Press, 2020).

Kat Lehmann
A regularly best-selling author, including haibun, plus haiku awards including the Haiku Society of America Harold G. Henderson Haiku Award; Japan’s Basho-an Award; ITO EN Oi Ocha Shinhaiku; Yamadera Basho Museum; NHK Haiku Masters; and Japan’s Mainichi Best of Haiku. She is the author of “Moon Full of Moons”; “Small Stones from the River”; “Stumbling Toward Happiness: Haibun and Hybrid Poems”, and her fourth book explores the storytelling possibilities of haibun.

Tanka stories too!

It's up to each poet to interpret what we might be looking for, and not know what we might strive to want.

It's about stepping on cracks, or into them, opening a door for us.

Go for it!

Alan

Around mid-April the new submission email for haibun etc... will be created and details will be posted. So there's still a good five weeks or so to have a go!
