new haiku journal

Blo͞o Outlier Journal
is looking for a meld of extraordinary and unusual haikai verse, whether quiet in tone; with urban, nature or natural history approaches.

Different or startling, even ‘quiet’: nothing generic, nothing necessarily gendai, or experimental.

Just you and what a reader new to poetry, or new to haiku might enjoy.

Please send up to THREE haiku only (or other short haikai verse) for consideration to the Blo͞o Outlier Journal.

If accepted there will be a maximum of one piece per author.

I haven't given a closing date just yet, although over at Facebook you will see I've shown what might be the journal's December 2020 cover!  8)

I plan to bring out the first issue around Christmas time, and will announce a submission deadline which might well be around Sunday 6th December 2020, Midnight all time zones, so that allows various countries not to be caught out. I won't be clock watching so if it runs over to Monday 7th that's fine.

Good luck, choose your wonderful three haiku with utmost care!

After a few wonderful submissions, and excitement by the poets, there is a deadline!  :)

DEADLINE: Sunday 6th December ALL MIDNIGHT ZONES
If you are not too late going into Monday 7th December, I'll look at submissions, but will need a clear two weeks or more as the first ever issue will go live just before Christmas.

There has been a fantastic response including one from one of my heroes of haiku who is not even on social media.

It's hard to believe that this venture is now nearing its Sunday 6th December deadline.

And later in 2021 we have another exciting bit of news, so please do look out for that!  :)

warm regards,
Alan

So it's the inaugural issue of Blo͞o Outlier Journal, and I have ten poems (haiku or senryu) maximum to nominate for the Touchstone Individual poem awards (The Haiku Foundation).

An emotional journey as I read the poems again, this time with nominations in mind. The first short list was incredibly long, and I was almost in tears paring down the long shortlists. So what if I'm 6' 3" and a tough guy, I can cry if I want!

The penultimate shortlist was a little easier but still emotional to leave out so many genuinely incredible haiku. One saving grace is that these nominations are only for haiku and senryu only, so not tanka, gembun, haibun etc... Phew!

I'm not showing the poems as the issue is not yet coming out to play, and please don't post your poem on your timelines, other Facebook pages, Twitter, or other social media, or other means.

But here are the ten amazing authors, out of many I will quickly add, that I have nominated for The Touchstone Individual poem awards:

Diana Webb
Lynne Jambor
Kath Abela Wilson
Jo Balistreri
Hemapriya Chellappan
Margaret Walker
Robyn Cairns
Gabriela Popa
Brad Bennett
Lenard D. Moore

warm regards,
Alan

A wonderful collection of poetry and photos, great reading.
A welcome way to chill-out on a day that is usually quite full in one way or another.

So pleased to be included in your first publication. Thanks Alan.

Thank you Carol! Each poet built this journal! I could not believe that there were something like 260 submissions!

I created a different method and alternative to 'sequencing' so I'll certainly be talking about that on our Call of the Page manuscript sessions.

Wonderful to have your poem in there, and I enjoyed finding the right photo from my own collection!

warm regards,
Alan
