HAIKU 2049

Greetings poetry lovers! I humbly offer my HAIKU 2049 poetry collection for your consideration and criticism.

From Wednesday 6/12 through Sunday 6/16 the Kindle eBook is FREE!

I love the simple 5-7-5 of haiku. I love videogames. I also love that I was able to publish this collection through Kindle Direct Publishing and hold the paperback and hardcover copies of my book in my hands. If I can do it, so can you!

Do we know if they accept haiku from non-members and those not using Facebook?

Edit: Non-members and social media Luddites are welcome. Responses are lightning fast!

This seems like a really great journal.

FOURTH ANNUAL VISPO CONTEST

Contest window: June 1 - June 20, 2024

We are back with our Annual Vispo Contest, now in its fourth edition. Each year is a celebration of the different ways in which artists combine the written word with a visual counterpart, continuing to push the envelope as they play and experiment.

Judges: Shloka Shankar & Robin Smith

What is Vispo?

Visual poetry is a development of concrete poetry, characterized by intermedia. The predominant elements that constitute a visual poem/vispo include non-representational language and the interplay of text & art. There is a strong graphic element to these pieces.

"Visual poetry can be defined as poetry that is meant to be seen—poetry that presupposes a viewer as well as a reader."— Willard Bohn

"Never before has language had so much materiality—fluidity, plasticity, malleability—begging to be actively managed by the writer. Before digital language, words were almost always found imprisoned on a page. It's just another reminder that, in the future, words very well might not only be written to be read but rather to be shared, moved, and manipulated, sometimes by humans, more often by machines, providing us with an extraordinary opportunity to reconsider what writing is and to define new roles for the writer. While the writer today is challenged by having to go up against a proliferation of words and compete for attention, she can use this proliferation in unexpected ways to create works that are as expressive and meaningful as works constructed in more traditional ways." — Kenneth Goldsmith

Interesting idea, which I bet many will enjoy.

I'm going to assume that you will be open to cutting-edge haiku such as might be found in Heliosparrow.
We shall see.

I hope you'll consider submitting to this new haiku journal. If you have questions, feel free to email me at li.ryland@gmail.com

confluence haiku journal: Call for Submissions

confluence offers haiku poets a unique opportunity to showcase a representative selection of their work and to collaborate with other poets.  Each issue of the journal will feature 1 to 2 poets and publish a representative sample (at least 15 poems) of the selected poet's work along with critical commentary by other poets. Selected poets are also invited to participate in collaborative writing activities and be published in an year-end anthology.  The editors intend to promote confluence widely in non-haiku poetry circles, so that selected poets may have their work read and appreciated by a more general readership.

Submissions open June 15, 2024 and will be accepted through July 15, 2024. confluence is edited by Ryland Shengzhi Li, Antoinette Cheung, and Aidan Castle. To learn more about the journal and to submit, please visit our website.
