One of my students has a number of haiku in there for the very first time! :-)

Wonderful work by our very own Marion Clarke! Her work in Bones is astonishing and there is more than one way to read the words and lines. Superb and powerful work!

A COMPETITION: WRITE A HAIKU AND/OR SENRYU (or three)

To celebrate Poetry Day in Ireland, Anam Cara Writer's and Artist's Retreat in Beara, West Cork, Ireland (www.anamcararetreat.com), is organising and sponsoring a haiku/senryu writing competition. We are looking forward to your joining the celebration with your entry.
Please submit up to three previously unpublished and original haiku (nature based) and/or senryu (human nature based) to Poetry Day Competition at anamcararetreat@gmail.com. The Subject Line must read 'Poetry Day Competition'. Please include contact details only on your cover email; each entry should be submitted in a Word doc or PDF with no identifying information and the contact info either in the body of the email or in a separate document.

The Judges:
Maeve O'Sullivan works in further education in Dublin. Her poems and haiku have been widely published, anthologized, awarded and translated. She has published four collections with Alba Publishing: Initial Response, Vocal Chords, A Train Hurtles West and Elsewhere. Maeve is a founder of the Hibernian Poetry Workshop and Haiku Ireland and performs with the Poetry Divas. She also leads workshops in haiku and writes book reviews for various literary journals.

Kim Richardson works in publishing and lives near London, England. He mostly writes and publishes haiku and haibun, his work appearing regularly in haikai journals. He has also had work anthologised and is a past winner of the Museum of Haiku Literature Award. Double Rainbow (2005) – co-authored with Maeve O'Sullivan – and Night Ferry (2018, shortlisted for The Haiku Foundation Touchstone Distinguished Books Award 2018) constitute his published collections. www.albapublishing.com

The Haiku Society of Constanta in Romania (founded by Ion Codrescu in 1992) establishes an international haiku contest on the following subject : the sea in whatever season it is.
This contest is opened to adults and children. You may send up to two unpublished haiku in English and in your original language from March 01st, 2019 to  June 15th, 2019.

Criterias for selection: all the haiku have to be related with the sea in whatever the season it is, kigo, solid construction, original association between two distinct parts, the exhibition of sentiments and a simple description should be avoided.

Winners will be announced during the festival of Constanta,at the beginning of September 2019.
