Contests and Awards / how many poems to make a book
June 08, 2023, 08:51:37 AM
Hello. Thinking about the Touchstone Book awards, can someone tell me how many poems/haiku are necessary to call a publication a book? I have seen collections of around 50 called a chapbook, and
others with less than that called a full length book. Confusing. Anyone know? Thanks.

Journal Announcements / Best Haiku Journals?
April 22, 2023, 08:44:35 AM
Hello, if you would: please say which Haiku Journals you are most likely to read and or send work to?
If you are willing, please offer a ranking of 5 or so. Do you include Heliosparrow and Bones among those
you favor? Thank you.

Don't know if this is the best place for my question, but here goes. From what I can see, things seem
pretty quiet in the world of haiku. Seems like everyone has settled into his/her camp, some people writing "normative haiku", others writing haiku gendai-inflected work, no raised voices, not much new or
challenging. Is this a fair representation? I don't claim to be aware of everything that's going on.

Leads to this then-- does haiku need a jolt? Is it ready for one? Is it even possible at this point?

Many thanks.

Hello,

does anyone know of poetry journals (that do not specialize in haiku) that publish haiku? I already am aware of Noon: Journal of the Short Poem.

Thanks.

In-Depth Haiku: Free Discussion Area / sine qua non
November 10, 2021, 03:33:41 PM
Kigo, ma, kireji, juxtaposition and of course brevity are some of the elements which haiku are known for. I wonder if for you there is a single element, or perhaps more than one, that has to be present in some form
for you to consider a given poem a haiku? What is the sine qua non of haiku?

Thank you for considering.
