Invitation to submit to Blithe Spirit

Dear friends

Blithe Spirit, the haikai journal, as you know, accepts only submissions from members of The British Haiku Society. The only exception is when the Editor makes an exception and invites submission from non-member(s).

As the editor of Blithe Spirit, I am making that exception for just the next issue ONLY, the first issue of 2018, which will carry a small section of works from non-members. I invite all non-members to submit your work for consideration. Here are the rules

Only HAIKU and TANKA may be submitted

Only up to THREE Unpublished poems per non-member

Please send your poems to Blithespirit.editor@gmail.com
Subject line for the email should have "NON-MEMBER SUBMISSION"

Deadline is 1 January 2018.

.
A maximum of one poem may be accepted from non-members, and only the creme de la creme. So send in your very best. I will respond to submissions from all non-members after the deadline. And please do share with your friends/ groups on and offline and spread the message and opportunity. Thanks
.
Submissions by members will be considered as per usual. There are no changes to the submission guidelines for members of the society.

Looking forward to reading all your fine works.

I have recently noticed that publishers who used to offer a free copy of the edition to those contributing haiku, now charge standard issue pricing to contributors?

In the last decade there have emerged a plethora of digital publications of haiku.

Has publishing become such a financial burden for these entities to survive they create shifts in paradigms, such as going digital, and charging participants for copies?

Every once in a while I read a haiku journal that publishes two line haiku.

In our more conservative training here in the States, we're tought haiku are best written in three lines, or monostich (one line haiku).

A seasoned haiku writer once explained that if a writer can get a ku to two lines, the writer should be able to get it down to a monostich. My own experience is that a one-line haiku is more complex than pushing two lines into one.

Besides the "Chrystaline" (form), 17 syllable, two line haiku, is there considered opinion regarding two line haiku?
