Lenard Moore sounds awesome, I love his work too. I'm also a big fan of Roberta Beary. I'm so excited to go!!! I'll tell you how it is :) Its 700 miles from my house, and I have to drive the whole way  :P lol

Aubrie,

From a poet point of view, I agree with you completely.  You have a wonderful poem.  I meant no disrespect.  :)  However, from a philosophical point of view ... for me ... I would think in terms of "all the things I am" ... nothing against the poem at all; just a different perspective (of which both are your poem or at least, what your poem stimulates the mind to ponder).

Blessings...

Hi Don, I see your point... but I think I read the poem differently than you. I always felt a sense of wonder... like the tiniest choice in someones past could have changed their whole life. I have always wondered what or where I would be if I had made different decisions (I might be something different, but not necessarily better)  But I am very content with who I am, I just think its kind of fun to think about. This poem is amazing... and I have no regrets with the tattoo :) Thanks for all your comments  everyone.

I'm replying to this awfully late, but I am a bit curious. Chase, did you ever get your tattoo? If so, I'd love to see it.

As a note to the other two, I would just like to say as the author of the poem (who is super flattered that he even considered it), in general I would much rather if someone tattooed the original than an edit.

Aubrie, I did get the tattoo! I had it done in henna first... (to see if i would like it on my arm ect..) then after a few months I got it inked on. No regrets. and yes, it is the original version. I'll be glad to show you when I have a chance :)

I just want to say I am a huge fan of your work, and your "distant galaxies" ku has been my favorite ever since I read it.

The original is posted first. I think day dreams makes this poem a lot better. Opinions?

Journal Announcements / DARK PENS ANNOUNCEMENT
February 09, 2013, 06:41:27 PM
Dear contributors and future readers, the submission deadline for the inaugural issue is almost here... so if you have any last minute submissions you would like to send me, please do that before March 5th. If you are still waiting for a reply to a submission, don't worry! I have been very busy with school so I haven't had a lot of time lately, but I will be going through my inbox soon to reply to any submissions that are there.

The inaugural issue is coming along very well. I have included many different kinds of short poetry... ranging from contemporary haiku, classic 5-7-5 haiku, short free verse poems and tanka. The first issue will be small in size, but big in quality. I didn't have hundreds of submissions to choose from, but  I had enough to fill the issue with some very good poems, and I hope you will enjoy it. I think Dark Pens will grow within the next year, as I submit to more directories and search engines... so bare with me!

Thank you for your support,

Chase

Hi Alan. So is Lakeview going to be publishing haiku from now on? or is this a one time thing??

either way, I'm really excited for it :)

I have been reading haiku for awhile, (but havent gotten anything published until a year or so ago) and I have noticed some poems have been hinting at personification recently. Not toataly using it, just hinting at it. I'm just wondering if sometime in the distant future (say 100 years) if personification will be widely accepted in ELH? We'll all be dead by then lol, but it's just fun to think about.

From what I understand (and I am no expert), original haiku HAD to include some sort of nature theme. Now, many dont. and we call those poems senryu. but in Basho's day, if someone had made a senryu type poem... no one would have liked it because of the no nature theme. Just like today, if someone makes a personification "haiku", no one would like, or accept it. Again, I dont know a lot about haiku history... but I've been thinking about this for awhile now.

by the way, I'm not talking about personification like "the sun is smiling". maybe something like the sleepy moon or something along those lines.

Any thoughts?

I'm looking to find a place where I can read my haiku in front of other haiku poets. I have no idea where to go, or how to find these events. Any help is appreciated! :)

New to Haiku: Free Discussion Area / a goodbye

I dont know how to say this... but after a long thought, I have decided to retire from haiku. with publications in six journals, i'll end on a high note. I need to find new ways to express myself. this year of haikuing was fun, but it's time to move on to other projects.

Thank you to everyone who enjoyed my work, it meant the world to me.
