Hi Lorraine,

I have been informed that this is more of a test website and that the real one, the updated one will have details to amend and change that have been addressed.

We are still waiting to hear from one of our staff (all volunteers no salary) to come back to us on an important part of the website too.

Once all the details are sorted, then a link will be open to all members.

The Facebook page is for notifications only and not the main link.

I think the updated UHTS website will be iPad and other smart devices-friendly once it is up and running.😊

So if you can bear with us, it will all happen.

We are very lucky at The Haiku Foundation to have friendly forums, which Laura Sherman, myself, and Don Baird, with help from others, worked so hard to achieve, and that Marion (Clarke) is carrying on that great tradition, thanks to all of you here. :-)

warm regards,
Alan

Mike is slowly overhauling everything from the entire old website which was a nightmare regarding code and other things. It's been a lot of long hours, and slowly slowly, despite someone trying to troll a web address and putting work back, it's there, but of course it's an ongoing thing all the way through the rest of the year, and into the new one too.

He's now correcting the various issues that we spotted for him, and then onto archiving the Cattails into PDFs to make available for everyone.

Then we might let him have Christmas. ;-)

After Christmas, and maybe a New Year's Eve party for good behaviour, we can coerce him into making it cellphone/tablet friendlier. :-)

warm regards
Alan

p.s.

If you don't know, the genius behind the THF blog and forums is also one human working all hours at times, to make it look very easy. Believe me, it's not, so here's a big nod and thanks to Dave at THF, and Mike at UHTS.  :-)

Alan,

It is disappointing and frustrating because I believe that this site will be the gentler way of approaching haiku. Off my soap box now. I'll give Mike the time he needs to make it happen.

With impatience, Lorraine

Thanks Rick for your understanding.

As you will see in the later message, it's a test website, the full one going up later.

warm regards,
Alan

Two years ago I helped a local organization do a similar migration to a new hosting service and a  complete website remake. It was a freaking nightmare...taking much time to resolve. I can fully appreciate what is going on here. My sincere gratitude to Dave and Mike, for all the tough stuff, and for making it all possible.

Hi Lorraine,

I'm old fashioned and don't use a smart phone for the internet, and iPads are next to useless for Facebook. I just use my MacBook Air laptop as it's so light anyway.

Here's the web link to join:

HOW TO JOIN
http://unitedhaikuandtankasociety.com/join

That'll go straight to UHTS Secretary: Iliyana Stoyanova.

NOTE: the Cattails journals will be archived later as PDF files.
An astonishing amount of work, most by Mike, is being done behind the scenes, and we are just now all joining in to do the proofreading as the technical side of things get some names wrong.

Look forward to seeing your name up there in the future! :-)

warm regards,
Alan

Hi Lorraine,

You don't have to use Facebook, the link is to the new UHTS website:
http://unitedhaikuandtankasociety.com

The Facebook icon far left is just the usual presence on other social media.

Still a few typos etc... to sort out, and the archives need doing, but it was a mammoth task, and getting closer. :-)

warm regards,
Alan

Using the provided link, got the home page. Looks like I have to join Facebook to participate? Quit Facebook long ago. What to do??

Lorraine

Alan,

Using my iPhone. Don't see anything but the welcome page and a way to enter through Facebook. It says that there's a way to join but I don't see it.

Using my iPad, same thing.

Warm regards,

From Mike Montreuil,

Hi all,

The implementation of the new website has been delayed.   We ran into a bureaucratic delay with the transfer of the domain name to our new hosting service site.  We are also fighting a domain name transfer troll.   More phone calls need to be made.

From Michel Montreuil

Hi all,

Just a heads up that the "old" UHTS website will be shut down for good this weekend as we enable the "new" website with a new hosting service.  The old site has been backed up, and all the old issues of cattails have been saved.   Sometime this fall, the old web issues of cattails will be converted to PDF format.   However, not all features from the old issues will be available in PDF.

The new United Haiku and Tanka Society website will be up and running by the end of Sunday,
September 10, 2017.   The existing UHTS website will be shut down accordingly.

Cheers
Mike

It is very sad news that Werner Reichhold, husband of Jane, died yesterday.

Please celebrate what they have done for our haiku community over many many years. Here's a lovely piece from Sandra Simpson about Jane and Werner:

Brilliant!

Yes, haibun is accepted now, whereas standalone haiku/senryu aren't. My Prof loathed haiku with a passion but really likes haibun. Go figure. :-)

Just so encouraged.

A regional editor I met last fall (who says she HATES haiku) saw and read this from my post of it on FaceBook.
She put the publication on her newsfeed on the Blog of her own Journal.

And, achem, she is scratching out a Senryu series now.

Just saying. Walls are coming down.
All because I was brave enough to stay with the Poetry Society of Texas (a State Poetry Organization).
Who says haiku poets should not bother with State Organizations?!
