Howdy there Julie I actually entered a 4 part Haiku in my college open poetry contest and won! Much to my surprise actually. Not that I didn't like it, but I sort of considered it a novelty ( it was about fly fishing) and just entered it to round out my submissions to 3. Hey, you never know.  HOSS

I found The Japanese Haiku, By yasuda at my local half price books! $5.00. Looking forward to reading it. HOSS

Hmm, I was thinking more like calligraphy or impressionistic or sumi-e etc... stuff like that.

Assuming that 1000 words equals a picture/painting/etc.  what would a haiku look like if it was a picture/painting/etc.? Have fun with it. HOSS

I will throw my two cents on top of onecloud's. I think those of us who are beginners at haiku do things like a child out of ignorance that are as onecloud says is fresh. It reminds me of the 4 levels of learning.

No one perhaps does the wrong thing on purpose from the start intentionally. I do however find it interesting that it takes us so long to come full circle to a place where we feel free enough to do what we were doing in the beginning.

Now I have only posted a few , but so far not as much feed back as I would have liked. Since I am new I think beginner is best for me, but feel like I need, well more? I want to understand but don't know enough to know how to express myself here. Maybe I need a "teacher" or mentor. HOSS

Well  :o ; Alan I'm not sure how you figured out that I like flyfish but yes I do, alot.  ;D

Any how back to my subject matter. well perhaps I should just post it, and let y'all see it for yourselves in context. I really would not consider it out of bounds or over the top, as you will see I hope. Sue, I guess that was my worry initially that some one might get ofended, and well what a bad way to start. So; If all agree I can post it tomorow in the begginers section. Hosscooper

Hopefully simple question. is it allowable to well  :-[ curse in a haiku? I have an idea that I like, but do not wish to offend any one if I post it. I would not consider it quote bad, rather something most folks would do if they were alone and upset. Since however it would be posted I would in effect be saying it out loud. Hosscooper
