Post by: Billie Wilson on March 02, 2011, 06:42:22 PM
Hi everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that there is still time for you to send your entries for this year's Robert Spiess Memorial Haiku Award Competition.

March 13 is the in-hand deadline.

Details are available at:  http://www.modernhaiku.org/spiessawards2011.html. (http://www.modernhaiku.org/spiessawards2011.html.)

Hi Billie,

Is there any chance next year of this competition allowing for email entries and paying by paypal?

Also, I'd subscribe to Modern Haiku if it was by paypal too, like Frogpond.

Re Alan's post:

That would be a great idea.  It really doesn't cost anything to set up Pay Pal... and, so much easier it would be.

best,

Don

Bilie: I concur with Alan & Don: I enter contests that allow me to e-mail. I don't even have stationary or stamps anymore. Hope they allow email entries someday.

Thanks for listening,

Al

Billie, Why March 13? That's a Sunday, so the cutoff would have to be the 12th or 14th.

Hi, Chris,

I wondered that, too, this year -- do things that arrive on Monday count?

13th March is the date Robert Spiess died.

So I join Chris in asking, what is the cutoff date for submissions -- the 12th or the 14th?

Not that I like waiting till the last minute, just that inspiration often takes that long to arrive, or get right :)

I agree, Chris.

Always thinking there's a better haiku around the next corner, until it turns into a blind alley of deadline.

Hi gang,

Thanks for all the notes!

Be assured that I'll be checking my mail for a few days after the deadline to be sure I have included all of the entries.  Because mail from overseas always takes a bit longer, I always allow for that every year.

Regarding whether future years might include the option for e-mail entries using an electronic payment method, that is a great suggestion and I know Modern Haiku (the sponsor of this competition) will take the suggestion very seriously.

In the meantime, there's still time to meet the deadline, folks!

Smiles,
Billie
