Today (October 26th) is Diwali -- known as the "Festival of Lights" and one of the most important Hindu holidays. Diwali is celebrated with the lighting of small clay lamps (diyas), sharing sweets, and fireworks. The holiday marks the Hindu New Year and the return of Rama from exile.
