Title: Suggestions and Feedback
Post by: Laura Sherman on January 03, 2011, 12:36:48 PM
What do you most want to see on these New to Haiku boards?

What are your current favorite discussions/threads?

If you're new to haiku, are these boards helping you to learn about haiku?

We'd like to hear back from you and welcome your thoughts, suggestions and feedback.

Thanks!

Laura

I love, love, LOVE both this board and the Mentoring board!!!!  I'm a beginner, so it's all new to me. I'd done a good bit of reading about haiku and tanka, etc, but there's NO SUBSTITUTE for the gentle guidance and sharing of experienced haijin!!!!

I'm in hog heaven!!!!

Thanks Bea! ;-)

That's precisely what Laura and myself want.  ;D

The strength of this area of the site is to encourage beginners.  Books and wide reading are very necessary, but best combined with interaction between haiku writers of all strengths.

Not sure there are any special areas, this whole place is a hotbed for learning about haiku, we learn from so many different quarters, our own errors, others mistakes too, recommended reading, reading the masters sometimes from very unexpected places etc Somehow I get the feeling that no matter how many haiku we write we never stop learning, someimes it is difficult to critically distance ourselves from our own work I think more often I should distance myself for a while and then reread and critique, but it's such fun often I am in too much of a hurry to share it. ::)

I second, Bea's comments - with bells on!

I have learnt so very much here already, thanks to the selfless giving of their time by the mentors.

This is a great place for me to grow as a poet of Japanese-style poetry. Thank you all, mentors and participating poets! I greatly appreciate your time and help.

Cheers,

Nu

Is it possible to have a seperate thread for tanka?  I would love to be able to comment and write tanka, but at present I haven't tried the genre and I don't want people to thiink that I am ignoring their posts.I just don't feel qualified to offer an opinion.

Do we have a lot of members posting tanka? Would there be a following? It's something to ponder, that's for sure?

There seem to be more and more, Don, and I am itching to try them. :)

There are fewer and fewr haiku in the Advanced mentoring section, and while I love reading the tanka, I am not qualified to comment, which saddens me. I would love to learn more of tanka, so could we please have a tanka thread separate from haiku?

Grace, I was going to suggest a separate thread for tanka, but that doesn't necessarily mean that
the volume of haiku would increase.  There are only a handful of haiku poets like you and
myself posting in the advanced mentoring thread.  When the haiku postings pick up, I think it's a great idea to have a separate tanka thread so that those who want to concentrate on haiku won't feel
obligated to comment on tanka.
