Haiku of the Day for April 2024 features Guest Editor Deb Koen’s collection on the theme of ‘a light touch’. Here are her thoughts on the theme of ‘a light touch’.
Through my haiku reading and writing experience, I especially appreciate poems with a light touch. At times when the world gets heavy, haiku that evoke a spirit of levity and playfulness can touch us with the joys of nature and offer us glimpses into our shared human condition. Here are some of my favorite light touches from beloved poets, along with lesser-known voices in the haiku world. Leading off with Michael Ketchek’s delightful “just when I needed it,” this haiku sets the tone for a month of light touches.
