Celebration Fortnight — Day 6

organizationEach day during our celebration we will focus on a single aspect of the Foundation. Today THF president and board member reminds us of the Foundation’s unique celebration of haiku, International Haiku Poetry Day, held annually on (or about) April 17.

International Haiku Poetry Day (IHPD) is a THF initiative that is unique in the world of haiku. Founded in 2012, it presently consists of three distinct elements: 1) the HaikuLife Haiku Film Festival; 2) the Earthrise Rolling Haiku Collaborative; and 3) a series of local haiku gatherings, events and presentations around the world. Each of these elements invites the participation of poets from all countries and cultures in a celebration of the genre we love. These links will take you to the results of IHPD 2016.

IHPD is one of our most iconic and successful programs, and it is our intention to continue offering it in 2017 and beyond. We will announce our theme for the Earthrise Rolling Haiku Collaborative in early April, and it is never too early to begin work on your haiku films. You can contact us any time to let us know of your participation. We look forward to sharing your work with the haiku world!

Once a year we ask the haiku community to help us meet our financial challenges. We reserve the period from Thanksgiving through St. Nicholas Day, the time our culture has has set aside to note our many blessings and show our appreciation. Thank you to those of you who have already contributed. If you have not done so yet, please take this opportunity to help us continue our work — details on our donation page. Again this year we have the support of an anonymous angel who will double your donations — for every dollar you commit, the Foundation receives $2. Please help us make the most of this generous offer, and thanks in advance for your support of The Haiku Foundation, and of haiku itself. We wish you a most happy holiday season.
