Book of the Week: Wooing the Meadowlark

Today’s Book of the Week is Wooing the Meadowlark by American poet Mary Fran Meer. Mary was active in the 1990s and early 2000s as editor, contest judge and poet in Pacific northwest haiku circles and in The Haiku Society of America. Unfortunately, as far as we know she published only this one volume of her finely crafted, minutely observed, shasei-style haiku.

lamplight
quilts crazy patterns
on fresh snow

haloed sun
snow showers soften
the cliff’s rough edges

deserted road
quail chicks in tandem
behind her nodding plume
