Book of the Week: Long Shadows
In Island, Judith Beveridge wrote that “Jane Gibian has a delicate and intuitive style…and her haiku brilliantly express the transient, fleeting nature of experience and perception.” This is particularly true of this Australian poet’s haiku in our Book of the Week, Long Shadows, where she deftly evokes a sense of her environment in Australia, and, in second part, the sensations of street life in Hanoi.
winter evening alone
your watch by the bathtub
on the street of hair clips
buckets of pink crabs
boil in their shells
traffic jam
revving the bike
in your white high heels
