Book of the Week: Catching the Light

elsberg_catchingthelightJohn Elsberg and Eric Greinke were just ahead of the rediscovery of sequence in haiku by publishing this set of 12 (Cervená Barva Press, 2009), done without attribution. We offer one complete, “In the Wake.”

You can read the entire book in the THF Digital Library.

Do you have a chapbook published 2010 or earlier you would like featured as a Book of the Week? Contact us for details.

Haiku featured in the Book of the Week Archive are selected by Jim Kacian, and are used with permission.

driftwood cradled again the dunes color of bone
the Snake Brothers play Temptation on the boardwalk slender legs
brushing sand from my notebook no words on the page
turquoise running just off the beach twilight’s soft compassion
she sketches at dusk from the dunes fading lines
late summer dragonflies along the edge of a wobbly sea
sunset over the back bay a tree turns orange
the quickness of the shell I reach for outgoing tide
going home not quite ocean not quite bay
everything that we leave behind is in the wake the gulls keep pace
