Book of the Week: A Tinkling Down the Street: Fifty Haiku
Our Book of the Week is A Tinkling Down the Street: Fifty Haiku, a bilingual book in Italian and English by Sonia Maria Bizzarro and Oscar Luparia. In form, design, content, and execution, this book is a work of art of rare quality. In an introduction called The Tides, the authors tip readers to repeated and circular patterns in the book’s design to be aware of in order to appreciate the haiku fully as symbolic descriptions—an unusual and refreshing strategy to get at, or not get at, “the real”.
no alarm clock
with blackbirds chirping
the new day
cherry blossoms —
office deadlines
forgotten
open window
only a cricket in the lawn
sings at the moon
